Genoni Martínez es el Jugador Más Valioso y Defensivo del Año en la MISL

Este jueves se dio a conocer el nombramiento de Genoni Martínez como Jugador Más Valioso y Defensivo de Año en la Temporada 2009-2010 de la Liga Mayor de Futbol Rápido de los Estados Unidos.
Genoni finalizó la temporada regular con una producción de 62 puntos al concretar nueve goles de tres puntos 11 goles de dos puntos y brindar 13 asistencias, participando como titular en los 20 partidos del calendario regular.
A la defensiva Genoni destacó con 34 bloqueos.
Genoni ha formado parte de los tres equipos campeones de LA RAZA de Monterrey en los años 1995, 1996 y 2000.
Por otro lado, Ángel Hernández y Ángel García; también zagueros de LA RAZA fueron incluidos en el Equipo Ideal de Novatos de la liga junto con Max Ferdinand y Rod Dyachenko de Baltimore así como Andre Berenzon de Rockford.

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced that Monterrey La RaZa forward Genoni Martinez has been voted the 2009-10 MISL Most Valuable Player and Defender of the Year. The 35-year-old native of Mexico City recently completed his 12th indoor soccer season, his fifth with Monterrey. Martinez led La RaZa into the MISL Championship Game, to be played Sunday in Milwaukee against the Wave.
Martinez ranked second in the MISL with 62 points on nine three-point goals, 11 two-point goals and 13 assists; has also recorded 34 blocks. He finished the season ranked first in three point goals, third in blocks and tied for fourth in assists. Martinez also ranked second on La RaZa in assists. This is his sixth League Defender of the Year honor (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008)
Martinez began his indoor career with the Wichita Wings during the 1996-97 season had stints in Philadelphia, Detroit, Monterrey, Harrisburg, Cleveland and St. Louis before returning to Monterrey for the 2007-08 season. La RaZa’s team captain, Martinez is also captain of the Mexican National Indoor Soccer team and will be playing in his third championship game. In 12 seasons, he has played in 352 games and recorded 864 points on 316 goals and 265 assists; he has 565 career blocks. In 2006 he advanced to the Championship Game with the St. Louis Steamers and in 2008 he led La RaZa into the Title Game. Monterrey defeated the Baltimore Blast, two-games-to-none, in this season’s Semifinals to advance to Sunday’s Championship Game against the Wave.
To determine winners of the postseason awards, members of the media, MISL coaches and general managers were asked to cast votes for first-place (worth five points), second-place (three points) and third-place (one point) for the MISL MVP and Defender of the Year.
